I have been blessed to meet Megan through the wonderful world of Facebook and because of COMPEL Training. She and I have similar stories, backgrounds, and personalities, so it is no surprise that we hit it off and felt connected immediately. It has been a privilege getting to know this woman, watching her grow in her writing, and cheering her on with all the opportunities she gets to share her writing with the world.
Come get to know her story on how she caught fire for the Lord and how she praises, proclaims, and promotes our Good Lord, Jesus Christ.
What do you do for a living?
Megan: I work as the family support services coordinator at a pregnancy resource center.
What is your life verse and why?
Megan: Genesis 50:20 -God used circumstances in my life, not only for good but also to save the lives of others, that people and satan meant to destroy me.
What is your favorite book in the Bible & why?
Megan: This is really hard to choose. I guess I would have to say Ephesians because learning my identity in Christ was life-changing. It warms my heart whenever I read those identity statements that help me realize how much God loves me.
What is your favorite Worship song?
Megan: This is also a hard question. There are so many. However, one that means a lot to me and was pivotal in my life is Keep Making Me by Sidewalk Prophets. Careful...it's dangerous to sing that song. God will break you down and change your life if you really mean those words.
Do you serve at your Church home? If so, what do you do
Megan: Yes, I lead a Life Recovery group. Recovery ministry is close to my heart.
In what ways do you praise Jesus?
Megan: I am always in awe of the things Jesus orchestrates in my everyday life, and I tell Him that. I tell other people about it...about Him.
In what ways do you proclaim Jesus?
Megan: I share my testimony and tell everyone who will listen how Jesus has changed my life.
In what ways do you promote Jesus?
Megan: I feel it's important to use the talents and resources that He gave me to help others in His name. I believe that gives Him glory.
How old were you when you caught fire for the Lord?
Megan: I was about 30 when I began a true relationship with Jesus. It wasn't anything miraculous or exciting at first. I couldn't even tell you what day it happened. It was a slow realization as I learned more and more about Jesus. My counselor then told me that I should go to church if I believed in God. It was a couple of years before I found the church that taught me who Jesus is. I'm fortunate that God is patient because I can look back at major points in my life and see that God has been calling for me since I was a little girl.
Was there a significant event in your life where God revealed Himself in a major way?
Megan: Yes. There was a point in my life after I had formed a relationship with Jesus when I was depressed, suicidal, and drinking too much. Circumstances in my life were hard, and I was neglecting my spiritual care. A lifetime of trauma that I shoved deep down inside rather than dealing with it was bubbling up, so I was doing everything I could to numb the pain. But again, God didn't give up on me. He convicted me that how I was coping with life was wrong.
He led me to a church and then a recovery group full of people who loved me and showed me what Christian living is supposed to look like in a practical way. They showed up in a very real way for me. They were people with whom I could talk about the really hard things, and they wouldn't flinch or back away. God knew they were exactly who I needed at that time in my life. I don't see them nearly as often as I would like anymore, but in my heart, they will always be my family.
Healing and recovery was (and still is) a slow, painful journey, but God has been with me every step of the way.
He continued to place people in my life as support. I found an amazing Christian counselor who is able to help me heal from my trauma while also guiding me spiritually. She has been invaluable in my life. He put another mentor in my life who continues to walk beside me and show me what God's grace looks like here on earth. It was being surrounded by a strong community of God's people that saved me.
What keeps your fire lit?
Megan: I want to be God's light for others like God's people showed up for me. This is why God allowed me to go through all these hard things, for the good of others. My pain has a God-given purpose, and I won't allow that to go unfulfilled.
What is your favorite hobby or something you like to do for fun?
Megan: I love reading, writing, learning, and spending time with God in nature.
What advice or words of wisdom do you have for other women?
Megan: Find your people. Who you surround yourself with matters. Learn who you are in God's eyes. Where you place your identity matters. Find the resources you need. Fight and advocate for yourself. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable and allow others to help you.
Thank you so much, Megan, for sharing pieces of your story to praise, proclaim, and promote the goodness and love of Jesus Christ! I can't wait to see how God uses your story to bring Him glory.
